ARTIST'S STATEMENTShannon Sim’s work, consisting of painting and mixed media, are constantly changing, as she is searching for the best way to communicate her ideas. In many of her artworks, she
actively uses watercolour, ink, acrylic, pencil and manipulates the different media to create paintings with multiple techniques. She is mainly influenced by Conceptual and Abstract Art and strives to incorporate interactivity in her projects. The viewers are able to make a visual and physical connection by involving both senses of sight and touch. With reference to Singapore’s prominent social issues, her artworks delve into gender inequality and mental health. She explores female identity stereotypes, as well as stigmas related to mental health. She uses mixtures of monochromatic and complimentary colours to associate with themes, such as discrimination and oppression of women and those with mental health challenges. |
